Our service is endorsed by NZ property managers, insurance reinstatement firms, care homes, hotels, carpet manufacturers, commercial and residential clients.
In residential and commercial spaces, rugs tend to be subject to high levels of foot traffic, swiftly becoming dirty.
Choosing professional steam cleaning for your rug, runner, or mat will remove entrenched soiling, dirt, and allergens, increasing longevity and contributing to a healthier environment.
At Carpet Surgeon, we clean all forms of rugs, runners and mats, including Oriental, Persian, Turkish, Indian, Moroccan, Chinese, and a broad range of contemporary rugs. We deep steam clean, sanitise, and stain treat all substrates from synthetics, wool, silk, cotton and natural fibre rugs.
You can visit us at our purpose-built rug treatment facility in the city end of Mt Eden.
We use sustainable and biodegradable treatment products, reduced water usage and techniques that are friendly to the environment and the people and pets in your space.
We are so technologically advanced that you could call it iCleaning! We stay abreast of industry developments and apply emerging techniques.
We individually evaluate and treat all forms of rugs, runners and mats. Each client has unique aims and goals, so we start by listening to what you want.
Our technicians are highly trained and have internationally recognised qualifications. We train in-house, and our team members are customer-focused.
Our fully qualified technicians will inspect your rug for care instructions and, based on its construction and materials, provide a targeted solution to meet your goals.
Our preferred method is steam cleaning. This involves pumping steam and hot water into the pile of your rug under high pressure. At the same time, a strong suction vacuum system extracts the water, bringing deeply lodged allergens, dirt, and stains with it.
Our industry-standard process includes inspecting, pre-spraying, steam cleaning, stain-treating, sanitising, drying, and wrapping your rug.
The process ensures effective bacterial removal, efficient stain treatment, neutralisation of odours, and a noticeable restoration of feel and colour.
A full protective system is available for application after cleaning on request.

A: Rugs — particularly wool, silk, or antique pieces — require the right cleaning method for their specific fibre and construction. The wrong technique or products can cause shrinkage, colour bleeding, fibre damage, or leave residue that attracts more dirt. Our technicians are qualified and use targeted treatments matched to your rug’s materials, ensuring a thorough clean without causing damage.
A: Once a year is a good guide for most rugs in regular use. Rugs in high-traffic areas, homes with pets or children, or those used as dining room rugs (where food spills are common) may benefit from cleaning every 6 months. Regular professional cleaning removes embedded dirt and allergens that vacuuming can’t reach, and extends the life and vibrancy of your rug significantly.
A: Yes — stain removal is one of our specialist services. Our technicians are trained to treat a wide range of stains including food and beverage stains (red wine, cordials, coffee), pet urine and biohazards, water stains, ink, and colour runs. We use stain-specific pre-treatments matched to the stain type and rug substrate. Some very old or set stains may not fully reverse, and we’ll give you an honest assessment before we begin.
A: Yes — delicate and high-value rugs are something we handle with particular care. Before any cleaning begins, our technicians inspect the rug’s care labels, construction, and fibre type to create a targeted treatment plan. We use eco-friendly, biodegradable products that are effective on dirt and stains but gentle on delicate fibres like wool and silk. We do not use a one-size-fits-all approach.
A: Most rugs are cleaned and ready for collection within a few days. Heavily soiled rugs or those requiring repeated stain treatments may take longer — we’ll let you know at drop-off. Once your rug is fully cleaned, dried, and quality-checked, we’ll contact you to arrange collection. We wrap rugs for protection and ensure they’re ready to go back in your home looking their best.
We tackle a range of common New Zealand carpet troubles like carpet stain removal and sanitisation with our deep steam cleaning method
Our experienced technicians, high-tech machinery and extensive product selection allow us to offer a solution for all forms of stains.
Food and liquids that are brightly coloured, including red wine and cordials, can be difficult to remove. Our stain-specific pre-treatment and stain-treatment process ensures we utilise the right approach to remove your food and beverage stains.
Our trained technicians use premium-quality, sustainable products to remove tough and stubborn stains such as urine, faeces, and blood. They also use hospital-grade sanitation products to neutralise odours and treat viruses or bacteria.
Water stains can occur for several reasons, including flooding, spills, and general traffic. If left unchecked, mould, discolouration, and unsightly marks can develop. We have water-stain-specific treatments available for all types of rugs.
Fluids can cause dyes and colours within a rug to bleed into each other. Our experienced technicians use a specialist treatment that can help restore your rug’s consistency and vibrancy to its natural condition and appearance.
A qualified team member will assist you in moving your rug from your vehicle into the facility. We swiftly inspect it for any specific requirements, and you are on your way.
We identify the rug substrate, type, condition, manufacturer’s instructions, care labels, odour, and indentations. Then, stains, including biohazards, are evaluated. A treatment plan is identified to target your concerns.
This stage is designed to remove any deep-down debris from the pile’s fibres.
Your rug is treated with sustainable industry-standard products to help remove traffic soiling or specific stains.
Our deep steam cleaning uses specialist machinery, technical know-how, and specific stain treatment products to ensure all soiling and stains are removed. For deep-down stains and soiling, this process is sometimes repeated over several days.
Our hospital-grade sanitisation ensures your rug returns odour-free, clean, fresh, virus and bacteria-free.
We air dry with the assistance of industry-recognised blowers to ensure swift drying times.
If required, we can provide a protective layer at an additional cost and offer deodorising to all clients who would like that little bit of extra scent to their rugs.
Once your rug is fully dry, one last careful evaluation occurs. Then, it is wrapped, and you are contacted for collection.
Collection is from our facility or, if requested, a drop-off service is available in some areas.
