How is leather furniture cleaned differently to fabric?

Carpet patch repair replaces just the damaged section of carpet, whether that’s a burn mark, a tear, pet damage or a stain that couldn’t be removed, using a matching offcut cut from an inconspicuous area like a wardrobe floor or the back of a closet. The damaged section is cut out cleanly and the replacement patch is fitted in, matching the pile direction and pattern so the join sits as flush and invisible as possible. It’s a far more cost-effective fix than replacing an entire room, provided a suitable offcut or matching remnant is available.

What You Get With Carpet Surgeon Leather Upholstery Cleaning

Finish assessment

We identify whether it's aniline, semi-aniline or pigmented leather before choosing a product, since the wrong one can strip or discolour the surface.

pH-balanced cleaning

Lifts body oils, dust and general grime without stripping the leather's own protective finish.

Stain and colour-transfer treatment

Denim dye transfer, ink and general marks are treated specifically, not just scrubbed at.

Conditioning

A leather-safe conditioner replaces the oils cleaning removes, which is what actually prevents cracking over time.

Odour treatment

Deodorising that's safe on leather, unlike many fabric sprays.

Care guidance

We'll tell you how to keep it looking right between cleans, including keeping it away from direct heat and sun.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you clean a leather couch without drying it out?

Yes, that’s the main risk with DIY cleaning. We follow every clean with a leather-safe conditioner that replaces the oils a cleaner lifts out, which is what stops leather cracking over time.

Can you remove denim colour transfer from leather?

In most cases, yes. It’s one of the most common marks we see on lighter leather and it responds well to the right product, though very old, set-in transfer can take more than one treatment.

Is suede or faux leather cleaned the same way?

No. Suede needs a completely different, dry-friendly approach, and faux leather (PU or vinyl) is more forgiving but still shouldn’t be treated like fabric. We match the method to the actual material.

Will cleaning fix cracked leather?

Cleaning and conditioning can improve the feel and slow further cracking, but it won’t reverse existing splits in aged leather. We’ll give you an honest read on what’s achievable.

How much does leather upholstery cleaning cost?

It depends on the piece size and condition, so we quote after finding out what you’re working with.

Where we work

Leather upholstery cleaning across the Auckland region

We clean leather lounge suites, chairs and car interiors across the wider Auckland region. Auckland’s sun and the average Kiwi living room heater are both common causes of dried-out, cracking leather, so we pair every clean with conditioning to help push that back.

Leather starting to feel dry or look dull?

A clean and condition makes more difference than most people expect. Call us for an honest look.
