How does fabric upholstery cleaning work?

Fabric upholstery cleaning generally uses hot water extraction, similar in principle to carpet cleaning but at a lower pressure and with far less moisture, since over-wetting a sofa or chair risks shrinkage, colour bleeding or a longer drying time than the fabric can handle. Before any water touches the fabric, we test a hidden spot for colourfastness. Delicate fabrics like velvet, linen and some synthetic blends need their own approach, including cleaning in the direction of the nap on velvet to avoid crushing or marking the pile.

Will cleaning shrink my fabric sofa?

Not with the low-moisture method we use. Shrinkage is usually a risk of over-wetting delicate or natural fibres, which is exactly why we test the fabric and control moisture carefully.

Can you clean velvet without crushing or marking it?

Yes, though it takes a different technique to a standard sofa. Cleaning and grooming with the nap, not against it, is what keeps velvet looking even afterwards.

Will you test for colourfastness before cleaning?

Always. A hidden spot is tested first on every fabric piece, since some dyes and blends react differently to moisture and cleaning agents.

Can you remove pet hair oils and smell from fabric furniture?

In most cases, yes. These build up on armrests and headrests especially, and they need targeted treatment rather than a single all-purpose clean.
